Recently highlighted in a BT Yahoo Travel article the Slapton area is regarded as one of the top 8 UK coastal retreats.

The area is a blessed with mile upon mile of beautiful coastline, where you can enjoy spectacular sea and country views from the headlands, whether you be walking the coast path or making your way to one of the gorgeous beaches to have a picnic and relax. Kingsbridge and Dartmouth estuaries can also be enjoyed from a different perspective by hiring a boat or using one of the pleasure cruises available. Also on the Dart is Agatha Christie's house, Greenway and nearby the D'Oyle Carte's Collaton Fishacre both in the care of the National Trust.

Also on your doorstep you have easy access to Prawle Point, possibly the best areas in the country for sightings of rare migrant birds, you may see Cirl Bunting, Black Redstart, Firecrest, Twite or even the occasional Hoopoe amongst the rocky outcrops and bracken.

Also nearby, the Slapton Ley nature reserve, the 3 mile ribbon of beach at Slapton Sands with it's memorial, where Operation Tiger, the WW II D-Day landings were practised.

As a base for day trips, you can visit Dartmoor with it's rugged scenery, ancient woodlands and cascading rivers. Also Plymouths' historic Barbican and magnificent Marine Aquarium are only an hour away. Further on into Cornwall there are the quintessential fishing ports and the spectacular Eden project.
